Input

Turn CSV into an ASCII or Unicode text table

Output

Table

231 characters

For READMEs, code comments, commit messages and CLI output. Columns are padded by display width, so CJK characters and emoji, which take two terminal columns, still line up. In a shell, column -t -s, file does the plain version.

Runs in this browser. Nothing you paste is sent to a server.

Tables in plain text

README files, code comments, commit messages, chat and CLI output all need tables without HTML. Box-drawing characters look best in terminals and monospaced fonts; plain ASCII survives anywhere; Markdown renders as a real table on GitHub and in docs.

Display width

Padding by character count misaligns columns that contain wide characters, which take two terminal columns. Counting display width, as Unicode Standard Annex 11 describes, keeps the borders straight. In a shell, column -t -s, lines up simple data.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a table in a README?
Use the Markdown style: a header row, a separator row of dashes and pipes between cells. GitHub renders it as a table.
Why do my columns not line up in some editors?
The font is not monospaced, or it renders box-drawing or CJK characters at a different width. View the table in a terminal or code editor.
Is what I paste sent anywhere?
No. The tool runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing you type or paste is sent to our server or stored.
