Input

Generate a changelog from commit messages

Output

CHANGELOG.md entry

682 characters

Groups Conventional Commits the way conventional-changelog and release-please do: breaking changes first, then features, fixes and performance work; housekeeping is left out because readers of a changelog care about what changed for them. Keep a Changelog's advice applies whatever generates it: a human should still read and edit the entry before release.

Runs in this browser. Nothing you paste is sent to a server.

Written for users

A changelog is for people deciding whether to upgrade, so it leads with breaking changes and leaves out refactors and dependency bumps that change nothing for them. Keep a Changelog sets out the principles; a generated entry is a draft for a person to edit, not the final text.

Getting the input

git log --oneline v1.4.0..HEAD lists the commits since the v1.4.0 tag. With squash merges, the pull request titles become the commit subjects, so lint titles rather than individual commits.
