Input

Crop an image to an aspect ratio

Output

Choose an image

The crop keeps the largest area of the chosen shape and the focus sliders move it, so the subject stays in frame when a portrait photo becomes a 16:10 cover. Upscaling beyond the cropped area's own pixels only makes the file bigger: the size of the crop is shown so you can tell.

Runs in this browser. Nothing you paste is sent to a server.

Why crop to a ratio

Layouts that display images at a fixed ratio crop them anyway, usually through object-fit: cover from the centre, which can cut off a face or the important half of a screenshot. Cropping deliberately before upload puts the subject where it belongs. Link previews on social networks use roughly 1.91:1, and many card layouts use 16:10 or 16:9.

Do not upscale

If the cropped area is 600 pixels wide, exporting it at 1280 only adds bytes. Start from the largest original you have.
