Click a node to expand it and a path to copy it; the paths are JavaScript accessors that also work in JSONPath after the $.

Runs in this browser. Nothing you paste is sent to a server.

When a tree beats pretty-printing

A formatted 5,000-line API response still has to be scrolled through. A tree lets you open only the branch you care about and see at a glance how many items an array holds, which is usually the question when debugging a payload. For transformations and queries, the JSONPath tester takes the copied paths as they are.

Large documents

Everything is parsed in this tab. A few megabytes is comfortable; for hundreds of megabytes, jq or a streaming parser in a terminal is the better tool.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get the path to a value in JSON?
Expand the tree to the value and click its path on the right of the row; it is copied as a JavaScript-style accessor such as $.data.items[3].id.
Does the viewer fix invalid JSON?
No. It shows the parser's error. The JSON formatter page explains the common causes, such as trailing commas and single quotes.
Is what I paste sent anywhere?
No. The tool runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing you type or paste is sent to our server or stored.
