Input

Generate an XML sitemap

Output

sitemap.xml

6 URLs

Google ignores priority and changefreq and uses lastmod only when it is consistently accurate, so this writes loc and lastmod and nothing else. Only list canonical, indexable URLs that return 200; a sitemap full of redirects and noindex pages teaches crawlers to distrust it. Point to it from robots.txt with a Sitemap: line and submit it in Search Console.

What Google uses

Google reads loc and, when it is consistently accurate, lastmod. It ignores priority and changefreq, so this generator does not write them. Only list canonical URLs that return 200 and are indexable: a sitemap full of redirects, 404s and noindex pages teaches crawlers to trust it less. See Google's build a sitemap guide.

Submitting it

Reference it from robots.txt with a Sitemap: line and submit it in Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. Sites over 50,000 URLs or 50 MB split it into several files listed in a sitemap index.

Frequently asked questions

Does a sitemap get pages indexed?
It helps discovery, especially for new or poorly linked pages. Indexing still depends on the page's quality and on it not being blocked or noindexed.
Should lastmod be today's date on every page?
No. Set it to when the content last changed meaningfully. A lastmod that always says today is ignored.
Is what I paste sent anywhere?
No. The tool runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing you type or paste is sent to our server or stored.
