Disk makers and network speeds use decimal units (1 GB = 10^9 bytes); RAM, most operating systems and Kubernetes' Mi and Gi use binary ones (1 GiB = 2^30). That 7.4% gap is why a '1 TB' drive shows as 931 GiB. Kubernetes reads 500M as decimal megabytes and 500Mi as mebibytes.

About this tool
Method, assumptions, practical next steps, and limits.
Two kinds of megabyte
The SI prefixes kilo, mega and giga mean powers of 1000. The IEC binary prefixes kibi, mebi and gibi, written KiB, MiB and GiB, mean powers of 1024. Disk makers and network speeds use the first; RAM and most operating systems use the second, often while writing GB. The gap grows with size: 7.4 percent at the giga scale, which is why a 1 TB drive shows as 931 GiB.
Where the difference bites
Kubernetes reads 512M as 512,000,000 bytes and 512Mi as 536,870,912. PHP's memory_limit=128M means 128 MiB. MySQL's size settings use binary multiples too. Write the unit explicitly in anything that takes one.
