Where the text comes from

Lorem ipsum is scrambled Latin from Cicero's De finibus bonorum et malorum, written in 45 BC, and has been typesetters' filler since at least the 1960s. Its word lengths and letter frequencies are close enough to English to judge a layout without the words being read.

When to use real content instead

Placeholder text hides the problems real content causes: a German heading three times as long, a product name that wraps, an empty state. Test a layout with the longest real title and the shortest before shipping it, and use lorem ipsum only for the shape.

Frequently asked questions

Is lorem ipsum real Latin?

Partly. It starts from a passage of Cicero, but words were cut and altered, so it does not translate as a whole.

Can I generate it in Laravel or a test?

Faker, which Laravel's factories use, has fake()->paragraph() and fake()->sentence(), which generate lorem ipsum style text.

Is what I paste sent anywhere?

No. The tool runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing you type or paste is sent to our server or stored.
